Law Question

I'm writing a fanfic that has a little scene that involves the US court system.

The person in question committed the following crimes: beating and then killing a fellow student for being gay, stalking, beating with intent to kill another student for being gay, rape of the second student, and returning to actually kill the second student but not getting through with it.

I need to know what this character would be charged with and how long their sentence would be.

Currently I have: you are charged with three counts of assault, one count of homicide and one count of attempted murder. I hearby sentence you to life in prison with no opportunity for parole.

But... I want to make sure that's right.

So help?

EDIT:

I got my answer. A friend of mine's mom is going back to school to become a paralegal so she gave me the answer.

you are charged with three counts of assault, one count of homicide and one count of murder and attempted murder. I hereby sentence you to two life terms with no chance of parole.

Thanks everyone!

dont quote on this but what ive read and all but i think
it would be two counts of assault, one count of sexual assault ( i think you have to define what kind of assualt), one might be with attempted premediated homocide, homocides
and the person in question might get life or might get like two or so life sentences
like i said dont quote me I'm going by what I gathered from this i think i would have to know a bit more
I hope that helps ifall fails you can make up something that sounds reasonable enough

Oh, good grief, there's a lot of possibly charges with that. Assault, hate crime, murder, attempted muder, harrassment, sexual assault, and possibly manslaughter. The sentence would depend on what degree the state would press for and on what charges they're convicted.
