Embry shook his head as he put his books in his locker. “No Quil, we can’t.”
Quil crossed his arms and pouted. “Why not?”
“Because it just wouldn’t work.”
“And why wouldn’t it! I’m gay, you’re gay, neither of us are attached and I know if you’re anything like me a hand can only go so far.”
Embry sighed. He let his eyes stay closed for a second longer than needed before he turned to his best friend. “Quil.”
Quil straightened; Embry hated the hopeful look in his eyes because he was going to have to crush that. “Yes Em?”
“I know too much about you. I know your favorite color, the foods that excite you, the way you say you hate to be brought to the edge of an orgasm and then denied but secretly it’s an even bigger turn on than the sex itself. I know you have a list of places you want to have sex… I remember how you cried when your parents died, how you couldn’t sleep alone for a year…”
“W-what does any of that matter?” Quil asked, his voice tight because of the last part Embry had said. It was only something Embry knew.
Embry gave him a compassionate look. “It matters Quil. It’s those reasons and more that best friends can’t be fuck buddies.” Embry closed his locker and shouldered his backpack. “We would end up caring too much.”
That said he left Quil standing in the hallway.
