Drabble: When Hope Fails
Fandom: Avatar the Last Airbender
Pairing: Sokka/Zuko
Prompt: "Hope is the thing with feathers— That perches in the soul— And sings the tune without the words— And never stops at all"
“C’mon Zuko,” Sokka stated through gritted teeth as he lifted the injured man, one arm over his shoulder’s. “We can make it out of this.”
“No… we can’t,” Zuko muttered. He was to badly injured to protect them. To tired.
“Damnit jerkbender! We are going to get out of this!”
Zuko blinked at Sokka slowly. “Why do you have so much hope?”
“Why do you have so little?” Sokka snapped back. He grunted and wiped the sweat from his eyes. “If we get captured I’ll have hope that we’ll escape before they ever get us wherever they’re taking us. If they get us there I’ll have hope that we’ll escape. Even if I take my last breath in some cell while they are beating me to death I’ll have hope that something better is waiting and somehow… this was all worth it.”
Zuko continued to stare at Sokka. He didn’t think he would ever fully understand the water tribe boy. Gritting his teeth he pulled himself up, gathering his strength. “Let’s get out of this.”
“That’s the spirit!”

I debated having his little "hope" speech there or not. Glad I left it now.
