Oh the horror
I called April with this message...
"April the worst has happened... my laptop won't come on... -whimper-"
It's true, my laptop has died and I took it to Circut City (who is incompitent) and they have had it for about three weeks but only just started working on it.
So until I get it back my updates will be slow. Here's the things to know...
1. Mom and Dad are still on my case about that stupid surgery
2. The doctor doesn't think it's a good idea at this time, he's sending me to a dietican. (I agreed to this)
3. Going to Flordia July 22-29.
4. Mom "hates fat people with long hair" - that's a direct quote during a fight about me cutting my hair.
Pirates 2 is awesome! I've seen it twice and will probably a third... I noticed some clues the second time so maybe the third I can solve the mystery!

I'm horrified.
(Anonymous) 2006-11-08 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)I'm so sorry, on behalf of all mothers, that you had to hear those cruel words. Not that I have the right to speak on behalf of all mothers, but between you and me, who will ever know I did it?
Olivia, when I first met you here's what I saw. A tall (everyone seems tall to me at 5'2") beautiful young woman who was smiling from ear to ear and having a glorious time with her friend. Your beautiful soul shines forth with your smile. I see your beauty in your eyes. Life is not about which body our soul has chosen to reside within, it's only about our soul and the spiritual growth that we accomplish in our lifetime. You're on the right track. I admire your stand against surgery and your (hopeful) dedication toward diet and exercise.
And just a side note here: You're an adult now and though we all must respect our mothers, we must remember that they do not run our lives once we become an adult. It doesn't really matter if she likes or dislikes "fat people with long hair" or "english bulldogs" or "cleaning out the garage". Whatever "it" is that she doesn't like, "it" is HER problem, not yours. Do not take that problem on as yours. (Mentally) hand it back to her, don't accept it as a problem that you have to rectify. "It" is simply something she needs to deal with in her own mind.
Reading between the lines, it's never about whatever the subject appears to be when someone says something like that to another person, keep that in mind too. I'm sure she loves you. It's possible that she has other issues with weight and long hair, some things that she carries with her from her past that frighten her or are worrisome to her regarding those subjects. You may never find out what "her problem" is, and that's ok, just remember that the problem belongs to HER. Did I stress that enough? ;-)
As women, we must support one another with love and tenderness. We can accomplish so much more in our lives if we treat one another with love rather than with criticism.
Love opens doors. Criticism builds walls.
My intention with this comment is to give you a door to open in the wall that your mother put up.
Now it's your decision as to what you will do. You can either stand behind the wall (frowning) or open the door and smile.
:-)
