Original: 26 Cents *Christmas Story*

Title: 26 Cents
Author: [livejournal.com profile] avari_maethor
Summary: Always have 26 cents with you, 25 cents to call home and a penny for your thoughts.
Rating: G
Warnings: This is sad, all spelling mistakes in the beginning are on purpose.
Note: The idea for this story was inspired by a mother who had lost her son to war. The 26 cents and summary is a quote from her, this is something she and her son used to do. Given this fact, this story is dedicated to all the mothers who have ever lost a child. Merry Christmas to everyone else.

Dear Collin,

Tonight is the first night you are spending away from home. You are only two houses down at the Riley’s but I miss you. The house is to quiet without you. If I miss you this much now I can only imagine what it will be like when you rebel from me and then go off to college. No matter what remember that I love you.

Love,
Mom

P/S: There is 26 cents in this envelope. 25 cents so you can always call home and a penny for your thoughts.

Dear Mommie,

If my friends catch me writing this I’ll be made fun of forever but I was just so bored. I hate these days at school when we just watch movies, I could have gotten a lot more done if I had stayed in bed this morning. I know when I come home today you will have all the Christmas decorations up. I love our house at Christmas.

Love,
Collin

P/S: 26 cents. 25 cents so you can always call me and a penny for your thoughts.

Dear Collin,

We haven’t spoken in two days and it’s killing me. I’m sorry we had that silly argument over colleges. I just don’t think I’m ready to think about you leaving yet. Whatever you want to talk about you can always talk about it with me. I love you.

Love,
Mom

P/S: 26 cents. 25 cents so you can always call home and a penny for your thoughts.

Dear Collin,

Why would you want to do something so dangerous? What about college? Oh screw this letter… we’re talking now. Well… you will talk and I will cry.

Love,
Mom

Dear Mom,

I know you hate the idea of me being in the army but really it’s the best choice for me. I was never that great in school. The army can guarantee me a job, give me the training and pay for college if I decide to do any classes. I’ll be graduating boot camp soon… I hope you will come. I need you. I love you.

Love,
Collin

P/S: 26 cents. 25 cents so you can always call me and a penny for your thoughts.

Dear Collin,

I have never seen a boy… no, a man look so handsome in his army greens. The moment you smiled at me I knew you had made the right choice. Through everything the thing I want most for you is to be happy. If this is what makes you happy then so be it. I love you and am so proud of you.

Love,
Mom

P/S: 26 cents. 25 cents so you can always call home and a penny for your thoughts.

Dear Mom,

I arrived in Iraq today. It’s very windy; my lieutenant says that there might be a sand storm headed our way. I don’t have long to write, I just wanted to let you know that I arrived safely. I love you.

Love,
Collin

P/S: 26 cents. 25 cents so you can always call me and a penny for your thoughts.

Dear Mom,

I saw my first friend from boot camp get shot today… these men we fight… they have no mercy. Women… children… it doesn’t seem to matter to them. I wish I could know what was going on in their minds. We’ll be moving to a new location soon so I might not get to write for awhile. I love you.

Love,
Collin

Dear Collin,

I hope this letter still finds you safe. I had a horrible dream last night. Please call me as soon as you get the chance. This will be the first Christmas we have spent apart since you were born. I love you Collin.

Mom

Mrs. Williams:

It is with great regret that the United States Army must inform you that your son, Collin Nicholas Williams, was killed in action. His personal affects will be sent to you shortly. Among these items were a ring, a half written letter and 26 cents.

Dear Mom,

I miss you more than ever… I will be calling you soon. We’re about to head out to a battle but I’ll be able to
