Drabble: Hanging Out

Fandom: Gundam Wing
Pairing: Duo/Heero (if you want to see it)
Prompt: Dog

It’s funny how you can find something, or someone, so easily when you aren’t looking for them.

That’s how Duo found Heero five years after the end of the battle with Mariemaia had ended. Duo was returning from the grocery, biting into an apple, on the L2 colony when he caught a glimpse of a familiar head of brown hair. Honestly, he shouldn’t have even noticed Heero sitting on the fountain reading a book. L2 was a crowded colony and it seemed like everyone was out and about this afternoon. But, Duo had always had this keen sense when it came to Heero.

A smile split across Duo’s face and he headed toward his fellow ex-gundam pilot friend.

“He-” A dog jumping up barking and growling turned the end of Heero’s name into, “Whoa! Down puppy! Nice doggy!”

Heero glanced up through the glasses he was wearing, one’s Duo was fairly sure he wore just to disguise his identity. “Carley. Halt. Sitz.”

The German Shepard, Carley, growled at Duo but backed up and sat at Heero’s feet. Heero reached down and scratched her behind the ears. Finally he looked up and met Duo’s gaze. “Duo.”

Keeping a wary eye on Carley, Duo gave Heero a grin. “I didn’t know you were on L2.”

“Hn.”

Not deterred by Heero’s lack of conversation skills Duo continued, “How long have you been here? When did you get the dog? Are the glasses for disguise?”

Heero shook his head. “You always asked too many questions.”

“Well it would be easier if you gave me some answers.”

Closing his book Heero stood. Carley also got to her feet, a leash in Heero’s hand attached to her collar. Heero barely nodded his head to the side before he started walking. Duo blinked at him for a moment before he jogged to catch up. He wasn’t sure where Heero was taking him but he knew he wasn’t in any danger.

“I’ve lived on L2 for two years,” Heero said. “I bought Carley last year and yes.”

“Whoa! Answers!” Duo exclaimed with a grin. “Man… why didn’t you ever contact me? We could have hung out.” Heero gave him a look. Duo laughed. “Right, ‘the perfect soldier’ doesn’t just hang out. Say, where are we going?”

“To hang out.”

Duo stopped and stared at Heero, the apple in his hand dropping to the ground. Heero didn’t stop and Duo could swear that he saw a smirk on Heero’s face. “Heeeeeeero!”

That was very cute! I'd expect Heero to do something like that. He wouldn't make a big deal out of moving to L2, he'd just show up there when he was ready, looking for Duo. :-)

Right? I can totally see him telling Duo something like, "I was just waiting for you to notice." Thanks for reading!

man, i didn't think Duo'd rub off on Heero that much, just popping up like that. ^^ the ending is so silly, can almost see Heero cringing at the cry.

I love Heero's dry sense of humor. Especially when he's teasing Duo *grins*

Ha ha, I really enjoyed reading this! Short and sweet! Just the right thing for some lazy minutes inbetween working. Just one thing though, as I am German myself I feel I should point this out: The German command for a dog to sit is simply 'Sitz!'. Hope you don't mind me being so forward. ^_~

Someone on ff.net corrected that too. Being that I'm not German and have never taken a German class I had to go with what online translators told me. I'll get around to changing it... eventually. :P And no, I don't mind that you pointed it out.

Thanks for reading and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
