Drabble: Growing Up

Prompt: Growing up



Jasper silently entered the room, his bright golden eyes catching each toy that lay askew on the floor so he didn’t accidently step on one and wake his daughter. He had to smile when he saw her lying sprawled across her bed, covers kicked to the floor. Stepping up to the bed he gently righted her limbs and pulled the blankets up around her shoulders.

Picking up Ellie’s favorite doll from the floor he tucked it under her arm. Leaning down he brushed a few strands of hair back from her face before he kissed her forehead. Pulling back just a bit he watched as her eyelids fluttered with whatever dream she was having. She licked her lips and her grip tightened on her doll as she turned over. Smiling, Jasper left the room as quietly as he came but not before he turned on her favorite nightlight.

Leaving Ellie’s room Jasper made his way to his and Seth’s bedroom. He grinned at Seth as he closed the door behind himself. His little love was reading, book balanced on his slightly rounded stomach. “Hey baby.”

Seth returned the smile closing his book. “Welcome home. Did you see Ellie?”

Jasper nodded as he climbed onto the bed and gave Seth a quick kiss. “Covers kicked to the floor and all. Her nightlight wasn’t on so I turned it on.”

“She’ll yell at you for that. She told me tonight that she’s a big girl and doesn’t need a nightlight,” Seth told him.

“She’s five.”

“Her words, not mine. If it was up to me she would still be using a nightlight when she’s twenty-one and on her own,” Seth stated.

Jasper sighed and laid his head on Seth’s shoulder. “She’s growing up to fast.”

I still sleep with a night light. xP But I'm terrified of the dark. I won't even go outside in the dark. *sigh*

Twenty one and on her own, Seth? Really? Silly wolf. But since they're both basically immortal, couldn't they just continue to have children whenever they wanted? They could always cure the "empty nest blues" once their kids are grown. Man, they could populate the world with half-vampire-half-shifters!

You forget that they are all rich. Unlike the rest of us Ellie won't have to worry about money for a place of her own and the like.

They could, but Ellie is their first in this verse. They'll always have a special connection to her.

Oh I just mean the night light part. Ah yes, the first born. I wonder what it would be like to live forever and still be able to have children. Like once they leave the nest you can indulge in your spouse again for another twenty years or so and then say, oh I miss having babies and start all over again, SO LUCKY!
