Wolves smelled. That was a true fact. And they didn’t smell pleasant, at least to vampires they didn’t. It was too earthy… to strongly smelling of the earth they would never lay beneath. So why Jasper found himself pressing against the wall in the youngest shifter of the La Push pack’s bedroom was beyond him.
It had to do with one word really. Imprint.
Previous relationships didn’t matter where imprints were concerned. Though there was room for choice. And choice was why Jasper had originally come… then he had smelled that smell.
It should have been far from pleasant… but it was just the opposite. The youngest wolf’s… Seth… smell was spicy and made Jasper’s hunger rise to the surface. The moment the smell had hit his nose he had flung himself against the wall trying to force the hunger down.
Seth didn’t seem to notice his presence. If anything he was comforted by Jasper’s scent. Seth slept on, even turning over with a sigh and a small smile on his lips.
Jasper slapped a hand over his mouth. His eyes grew wide as he was hit with a wave of that spicy scent. He knew his eyes had been growing darker… that he needed to hunt but he was sure they were black now.
‘I can’t…’ He thought. ‘There would be war if I killed this boy…’
Jasper dropped his hand from his mouth as he took a step forward. He could make it quick… drink him dry… cause as little pain as possible… okay, that last part was a lie. The venom was always painful… probably even more so because Seth was a wolf.
Kneeling on the mattress Jasper watched as Seth woke. He covered Seth’s mouth before he could scream and alert the rest of the house. But Seth didn’t scream. Jasper cocked his head to the side in confusion. Why wasn’t Seth screaming?
Seth’s dark brown eyes watched him with mixed emotions in them. His emotions confused Jasper even more. Seth was… happy to see him? Was that an effect of the imprint?
Jasper turned Seth’s head to the side and leaned down taking a deep breath of Seth’s scent. His nose brushed against the warm skin of Seth’s neck. He could feel the pulsing of Seth’s blood through the main vein there… it would only take one quick bite…
Seth watched out the corner of his eye as Jasper pulled away and sat back up. Slowly the hand was removed from his mouth. “Jasper?”
“I came here to tell you my decision… that I wanted no part of this imprint…”
Seth’s sadness and panic filled his senses and Jasper closed his eyes.
“But your smell… I’ve never smelt anything so good in my life.”
“So… you want me?” Seth whispered, hope clear in his voice.
“More than should be allowed,” Jasper answered.
