Family & Car problems
Jan. 7th, 2006 03:03 am"Don't ever let anyone tell you what you don't know can't hurt you…"
I wish my mom had retired from her job at the state when she came up for it instead of buying five more years. Mom really loves her job and I don't blame her, she works with some really great people. But her job is stressful and now she is paying for it. My mom has always had high blood pressure. She takes a whole large Ziplock bag full of meds to control it. She also had the stomach stapling surgery done to help her lose weight. Although it helped for a bit, it never lasts. Recently she has been having problems with her back, neck and shoulders. Sharp pains that can, at times, bring her to her knees.
Yesterday she went to the doctor to see what was causing these pains. When I called to check in before going shopping with my friends I could tell she was trying hard not to cry. Now knowing her problems and such, I became really worried that it was something that would kill her. Now, don't get me wrong. I guess what is wrong could (I'm not a doctor. I don't know). But when she told me, I was both worried and relieved. My mom has three ruptured discs in the base of her neck.
Today she went to the doctor to see what could be done about it. The doctor was very rude and basically said that they were so bad there was nothing that could be done and that she would have to live with this pain for the rest of her life.
She wants a second opinion and I don't blame her. Another member of our family that has had this surgery wants her to go to the doctor that did hers because 'he is the best' she says. Mom called down there today and they said they would take her but they need a physician's referral first.
I really hope there is something this other doctor can do. If he cannot take the pain away completely then at least some. It's incredible that we live in this world today with all these amazing creations and yet we cannot cure something that seems as simple as pain.
I personally also feel bad. My mom and I have never had that great of a relationship. We fight over anything and everything, usually about once a day. I think it's because our personalities are so much alike but then again so much different. We're like a total ying-yang. My friends have never liked my mom because well frankly, my mom doesn't like them. I think I have had two friends my whole life that my mom truly liked. My friends think my mom is to strict and wants to control me. This is true, I will not deny that. She has stated before that she owns me. But it is only because she loves me and wants the best for me.
My friend, Lisa and my mom got into it once. Lisa believes that as teenagers we can be best friends with our parents. Her mom is her best friend. Where as, my mom believes parents should be parents until their children are around 21 (I think). I believe my mom to be correct. I don't want my mom to be my best friend, I want her to be my mom. Where has this gotten me? I attend the University of the Cumberlands, have a car and all that other good stuff that goes along with being a student that is almost 4 hours from home (living away ROCKS!). And I love my friends, I would do anything for them but to use the one I was just talking about as an example; she is not attending school (yet), no car (still only has permit), lives at home, and goes through more guys in a month then I think I will ever go through in my life.
That is just an example of non-friend parents vs. friend parents. (I don't know how it works for anyone else).
Now... to the car. Before x-mas break I was parked on the curve outside of my dorm and while I was at class or something someone sideswimped my car. It didn't do much, just tore the left rear flare halfway off. We have been trying to get it fixed since Christmas. First the place didn't order all the parts, second the maker didn't send the right color of the part they needed, third they need two more clips that they had to order.
I was hoping to return to school on Monday to have a day to settle back in before starting classes on Wenesday. Now I cannot do that because they had to order those clips. -mutters curses- Stupid people.
Now let's see if there's anything else... hmmm... oh yes! I think I finally figured out how to use the LJ-cut so I'm gonna practice. If you've been reading don't pay any attention to this, unless it works and you want to congradulate me lol.
