Yesterday was my dad's birthday. For as long as I can remember my nana (his mother) would fix breaded oysters for his and my uncle's birthdays. Well, after she passed away my mom took on the tradition. I've gotten asked a lot of questions about them so I figured, hell, why not make a post about it?

What You'll Need:
-At least one box of crackers (we use Zesta)
-6 eggs for each box of crackers you use
-Flour
-Milk
-Oysters/Oyster juice

*One box of crackers will make 8 oysters.

How to Make:
1. Pour a box of crackers into a gallon sized zip-lock bag
2. Squeeze/crush the crackers until they are crushed fairly well
3. Pour the crushed crackers into a large bowl
4. Add six eggs to the crushed crackers
5. Add around a cup of flour, you may need more later
6. Add milk, less is more in this case, you want the mix to be dry but moist enough to work with
7. Add a small bit of oyster juice from the can of oysters
8. Mix the batter with your hands or a mixer
9. Once mixed, take out a small bit of the batter (rolled it should be the size of a egg)
10. Flatten the mix in your hand
11. Press a finger into the flatten piece slightly
12. Place an oyster (usually small) into the indent
13. Place another flattened half over the first half and seal it
14. Shape the mix however you like, we usually do an oval
15. Deep fry the oyster until golden brown
16. Serve with ketchup

*If the mix is to wet, add more flour
*The mix should stick to your hands slightly

Breaded oysters will look like this when done:

Prompt: Memorial

Cold wind and snow whipped around Magnus’ thin frame. The end of his neon green scarf repeatedly lifted off his neck and then settled again. Bringing a hand out of his pocket he slipped the hand under the fabric of his coat and shirt, fingertips barely brushing the edge of the puckered scar above his heart.

Each time he touched the scar he was taken back to the night of that battle. Alec’s panicked eyes when he saw they weren’t going to win this one. When Alec had swung around, an arrow notched and aimed right at Magnus. At first Magnus didn’t understand but then the arrow had slammed into him and his balance was thrown off, tipping him just enough so that he fell over the edge of the building into the river below.

Alec had saved him.

Magnus blinked slowly, his eyes burning. Looking at the little memorial he had erected for his paramour he sighed. “I never understood you Alec… We were over and yet you still gave up everything for me.” Magnus lay the white rose at the base of the memorial. “Of all the outcomes I could see…I never thought it would end this way…”
