Fandom: Twilight
Pairing: Edward/Bella, Edward/Seth
Prompt: Never understood…
Looking around the room of party guests, ones that Alice had insisted on inviting, my eyes landed on three shifters who had kept themselves separate from the rest of the guests. Two of the three did not surprise me at all. Paul and Jared had never tried to integrate themselves with the vampires like the rest of their pack did. But the third person surprised, no shocked me. It was Seth.
Seth was the pack puppy and… our puppy too. Everyone loved him and he loved everyone in return. I watched him as he laughed. Seth was beautiful. A gentle squeeze on my hand brought my attention back to the woman that stood at my side. Bella’s brown eyes met my own golden ones, they shifted off for a split second and I know she is looking at Seth, but then the gaze returns to me. I give her a smile and press my lips to her forehead assuredly. She smiles and goes back to talking with Esme.
My gaze goes back to where Seth was standing but he was no longer there. I look over the room, not sure how I could miss him leaving or even moving for that matter. Seth is like a beacon, blazing so brightly that he is impossible not to notice. So where did he go? Moving away from Bella, conscious of her gaze on my back, I went to find Jasper.
Jasper is the only other person I know that is as aware of Seth’s presence as I am. I find him standing next to Alice, a forced smile on his lips and an untouched cup of punch in his hand. The moment our eyes met Jasper knew what I wanted. He glanced around, casting out his senses, before nodding toward the door that led to the back porch. I laid a hand on his shoulder in thanks before weaving my way through the crowd.
The air outside was cold and crisp. If it had not been for Seth’s heartbeat…and the little white clouds forming as he breathed out, I probably would not have noticed him. His hands are tucked into the pockets of his jacket, something he doesn’t actually need but wears for show. His hair, always kept longer than the other shifters, falls into his eyes. He glances at me through his bangs and a little smirk appears on his lips.
“I knew you’d be the one to come look for me,” he murmurs, leaning back against the house. “I’ve never understood your fascination with me Edward.”
I take a step forward, drawn to him. “Believe me Seth…” I clear my throat. “I wish I knew.”
