Fandom: The Mortal Instruments
Pairing: Magnus/Alec (post break up)
Prompt: The image in the drabble
Alec let the damp towel he had been drying his hair with drop to the floor. Normally he would have put the towel in the dirty clothes basket…but tonight, he was too tired to care. Pulling on a pair of worn and holey sleep pants he fell into his bed facedown. Without looking up he reached for the bottle of whiskey, frowning against his pillow at the lightness of it. Nothing came out when he turned to take a drink and he finally cracked his eyes open.
‘Damnit…’ He thought. The bottle was empty. He let it drop from his fingers to the floor, listening to it fall and roll under his bed, clinking against the others that already occupied the space there. After a morning of hung-over training with Jace and then an afternoon and late night of fighting demons, he really needed a drink… but he was too tired to get up and go get another bottle.
His hand automatically sought out his cell phone, which was lying on the bedside table. Turning over, Alec lay on his back and pressed his thumb to the power button. After a moment the screen lit up and he slid his thumb across the screen to unlock it. And, he waited… nothing. Over 12 hours and not a single email, text message or otherwise. He was beyond pathetic. It had been three months since Magnus had ended things and yet he still checked his phone multiple times a day…hoping, praying that there would be some form of communication from the warlock.
Alec pressed the text app himself. Automatically the screen opened to the text message he had written a week after their breakup but had never sent. Every day he stared at this message, sometimes for hours, his thumb always hovering over the ‘Send’ key but never pressing it. Eventually he would close the app without sending the message, turn his phone off and give into the sleep his body craved.
