Well... as the title says... the near fight in the ER made my day and embarrassed the hell out of me.
It started out as a simple day. My mom had a doctor appt. which I had already told her I was going to drive her to. She's had a headache since last Thursday and has been to the doctor, this doctor visit was unrelated. But the unrelated doctor wanted her to go to the ER but mom said that she would stop by her family doctor on the way back home.
Just our luck... the doctor wasn't in today. So we went to Urgent Care. They said it was to much for them (basically) and sent us to the hospital ER. At first the waiting room wasn't so bad; an older couple and a woman there with her daughter who had gotten her fingers broken by the lawn mower... but then this big group (like 6) came in.
It was a mix of black and white kids, aside from one who was an adult. They were being loud, listening to the ringtones on their cell phones for the hell of it, laughing, listening to their music really loud. Basically none of them were acting sick. I did my best to ignore them, I was reading my book so it wasn't that hard, but for mom who had a migraine it was torture. Finally she asked them if they could stop.
One of the white boys (who was as gay as they come) snapped back at her, something like, "You don't pay our phone bills, we do!" This went back and forth for a few minutes before one of the girls muttered, "It's just because we're black." The white boy jumped on this and mom said, "You're black?" I wanted to laugh but I was to busy staring down at my book. Then the boy threatened to get a nurse and call his lawyer.
At this point the woman and her daughter had been taken back. Apparently they told the nurse about these people and said she felt threatened. The nurse came out and asked mom if she wanted to come back to a smaller room where it would be quieter. So mom and I went and it was much better. Thankfully we didn't see those people again, though the nurses called security.
The nurse that was taking care of mom said those people annoyed her because it was loud people who caused issues with others that made it hard to get their work done. Apparently this group had brought in a plate of doughnuts after we had left.
All in all it took 6 hours for them to give mom a C-scan, fluids via IV, a cocktail mix of meds and a dose of morphine. She's feeling a bit better now.
We got home and the air conditioner isn't working right. Joy.
