Drabble: Nightmares

Pairing: Alec/Embry
Prompt: Nightmares
Something was wrong. Alec frowned and set his book down as he stood. He quickly sniffed the air of the quiet apartment but that only told him that he and Embry were the only one’s there.
Then the scream came.
Alec was in his and Embry’s bedroom in an instant. He expected to find Embry awake after that scream but instead he found Embry thrashing about the bed, his fists clenched the sheets below him. The smell of salty tears hit Alec’s nose and he realized there were tears leaking out from Embry’s closed eyes.
“Em…” The nickname was quiet and didn’t even begin to wake Embry but it was all Alec could get out in his shock. Embry never had nightmares. “Em!” Alec went to the bed and straddled Embry’s waist, pinning Embry’s wrists to the mattress beside his head. “Embry wake up!”
Embry’s eyes snapped open, his chest heaving as he took in quick breath after quick breath to calm his racing heart. Tears still leaked from his eyes and he searched the room frantically before they landed on Alec. “It… it wasn’t real?” He questioned, more tears falling.
Alec tipped his head in confusion. “You had a nightmare,” he stated.
Embry took a deep breath and released it in a relieved sigh. “It wasn’t real…”
Alec leaned down and kissed Embry’s forehead, then his eyes, cheeks and finally his lips. “No, it wasn’t real.” Embry returned the kiss. Alec released Embry’s wrists only to lace their fingers together. “Do you want to talk about it?” Alec questioned when the kiss ended.
The shifter shook his head, leaning up to nuzzle Alec’s neck. “No, you’re here, that’s all I need.”
