Fandom: Twilight
Pairing: Marcus/Seth
Prompt: Melody
As the one year anniversary of his stay in Volterra approached Seth found himself treading a now familiar path. By the time he had been here for six months he had completely explored the castle, luckily avoiding Jane for the most part. The steps leading up to the roof were covered in dust from the lack of use.
Cold wind whipped through the opening as he pushed the door open. It stung Seth’s lungs as he took in a deep breath but it also rejuvenated him. He stared up at the stars and wondered if… even with the time difference… if his pack was looking up at the same stars. A soft, wolf like, whine left his throat as he stared up at the inky black sky.
Somewhere within Volterra a dog howled even though there was no moon. A feeling rose inside and Seth couldn’t deny himself. Removing his clothes he phased and sat on his hunches. Raising his head to the sky he howled, long and deep. When it ended he howled again.

It had been a long time since Marcus had felt a chill go up his spine. Years… centuries… but when the howl echoed through the castle he felt just that, a chill. The wolf’s voice was beautiful, deep and… sad. Marcus felt incredibly sad as he listened to the song.
Shutting his book he lay it down on the table beside his chair and left the library. It didn’t take him long to locate the fresh path of Seth’s scent. He followed it up to the old passageway that led to the roof. With each step the wolf’s song became louder.
Stepping out onto the large walkway he stood back near the door and watched as Seth howled over and over, for as long as his voice would last between each. Marcus had never found himself more enraptured than by this singing wolf. The melody spoke deeper than anything had since… her.
“Seth,” he said finally.
The howl Seth had been in the middle of ended slowly and he turned his head to look at Marcus. The night felt empty without the music, even the neighborhood dog had gone silent.
Marcus had planned to ask Seth if he missed his family, his pack. Had planned to ask about them… but now without the music all he could manage was, “Please continue.”
Those deep brown eyes studied him for a moment before the wolf returned it’s gaze to the sky and it’s voice filled the night once more.
