Well it is January 3rd and that means it’s time for me to grace my LJ with a true entry, the last few don’t really count as they were songfics and a list that I did for fun. Right now I’m just sitting in my chair, watching Golden Girls, wishing someone would get online so I could talk to them. January 3rd also means that the fall semester 2007 at Cumberland has ended. Really it means my Christmas break is almost over. –Sigh- 5 more days.
During my last actual entry I talked about how I wasn’t that busy yet, although I figured that would change, and change it did! It seemed I never had time and I never slept and yet I completed 19 hours of class without dropping one, completed 11.5 hours of workstudy a week and somehow managed to do 20 some hours of community service. I am quite proud of myself.
Towards the end of the semester I was so tired of things. One of my friends had some issues this semester and by the end we were both ready to break under the stress put on us by one teacher. I kinda didn’t go to my painting class for almost three weeks. But somehow I still managed to pull off a C in the class. My other grades were pretty good too, although I didn’t get as high in Pysch of Human Development as I would have liked.
A – Comp Imaging I
B – Advanced Composition
B – Intro to App. Software
C – Acrylic Painting
D – Pysch of Human Development
S (satisfactory) – Leadership [this was the most useless class EVER]
P (pass) – Convocation
Over the course of the semester I got much closer to the people I work with at the library, Katie (my roommate) and Jessica, my new anime buddy. Sadly, although Katie and I get along I don’t think I can room with her again next semester. She is just… to immature for me. Laura and I are going to try and room together in the fall semester if she and Jeremy don’t take that really big step in their relationship. If that happens, I think I’ll prolly have to go talk to Mrs. Carter and ask for a private room. I know of no one that I could get along with enough to be my roommate.
My new friendships aren’t contained to just those that are people I know. I have made quite a few friendships on the website that I hang out on all the time. I believe the one that I value the most comes in the form of a guy that I call Wish. Wish and I talk nearly every night for hours. Last night he told me that I had become one of his best friends and I am honored that he considers me as such. I have formed other friendships as well but none of them are as strong as the one with Wish.
Over the course of the semester I have also gone through some very hard times with some of my friends. Kelly and I had a fight that lasted nearly all semester, just days after she seemed to forgive me it seemed that she was mad at me once more. This turned out to not as big a deal as what I thought and we are friends again… for the time being ^_~. Next fall semester I will also be losing another friendship, Shelly is transferring to EKU. Even though friends say that they will stay in touch… it rarely happens.
I have fallen into the fandom of the Sci-Fi series “Tin Man”. It’s really amazing because I pretty much hate the Sci-Fi channel and I have a great dislike for the original Wizard of Oz. But the moment Tin Man came on I fell in love with the story, especially with the characters of Glitch and Cain. My fanfic readers can expect a few fanfics featuring those characters from me. Glitch is so adorable! His thought process works a lot like my own, random. It also helps that he was played by an actor that I think is really awesome since he played my fave X-men, Nightcrawler, yay Alan Cumming!
By the time Christmas came I was ready for a break. This break has done wonders for my spirits. I’ve caught up on my sleep, caught up with friends I don’t get to see much, and with family that is much the same way. Hallie and I went to see Sweeney Todd a few days ago. I’m not much for gore so I had to turn my head away at the neck splitting parts but the music and the acting was amazing. One of the last scenes had Johnny, the fire reflecting in his eyes… just wow. Hallie had bought the soundtrack so she let me burrow it to rip. I’m in love with two songs from it, “No Place Like London” & “Pretty Women”.
My chance to host my own contest on AA finally came. Another member hosted a writing challenge that was deemed unfair by the admins and gave me my own ideas of hosting my own. A more organized and thought out contest. With the help of one of the admins and another member I came up with the AA Writer’s Challenge. It ended two days ago with 11 entries. I’m very happy that it had such a great response for the first time. Hopefully, as more are held the interest will grow.
Two admins also hosted the AA Awards 2007. I’m very proud to say that I received the award for Best Fanfic Writer & was runner up for Most Honorable Vet. The admins had us nominate members before we voted; we also had to provide reasons for our nominations. I think this is a great idea. The following are things that were said about me by antonymous members:
Best Fanfic Writer - Someone that values the quality of their work, and enjoys contributing their work to this site.
ElvenAvari - She is both a good writer and interesting topic starter her writing contest inspired me greatly.
Honorable Veteran- A Veteran that is most important to this site. A person that has earned the respect of others, as well as shows respect to others, is responsible in word and deed, and that you can't imagine the site without.
ElvenAvari - She never causes any problems! XD
She is just such a nice person.
Most Contributive - A member that goes out of their way to make the site fun and enjoyable. This person spends a lot of their time here, and goes above and beyond what is expected from any one member.
ElvenAvari - she contributes to all sections of the site something very few do.
Most Creative - A person that has a certain uniqueness to them, be it, their personal style, their art, or whatever it is they do to express themselves.
ElvenAvari- Her fanfics are always enjoyable to read.
Most Helpful - A member always willing to help others, and that is very knowledgeable about the site.
ElvenAvari - She's always helped me with any questions, comments and concerns. She's very lovely and a very helpful friend.
Most Interesting Topic Starter - This should go to a member that is particularly active and likes to make topics, and does so quite often. Topics are always well thought out and planned.
ElvenAvari - I find her topics always interesting and engaging.
Most Original username - A member whose username just pops out and grabs your attention.
ElvenAvari - the only one I know who has an elven name.
I was very honored by each of these, also quite surprised by a few of them.
This spring semester I am taking 15.5 hours of class, with 11.5 of workstudy. I look forward to making some great memories this semester and doing well in my classes. My GPA came up a point in the fall and that will be a goal for this semester as well. Who knows, maybe by the time I leave Cumberland I will have a 3.5! Wouldn’t that be great?
