Drabble: Forgiveness

Pairing: Aang/Zuko
Prompt: Forgiveness
Zuko had always struggled with himself. Even after he had been made Fire Lord he struggled. Over the first few years as Fire Lord he had barely seen Aang, there was just too much for the Avatar to do. But then, as things started to settle down the young monk came around more and more. Eventually he stayed in the Fire Nation all the time unless he was called away. Zuko found himself enjoyed the other boy’s company.
Tonight though, years later, he had wanted his solitude. Aang had given it to him easily; not asking questions… never asking questions. Aang never blamed him either, even when he was clearly in the wrong.
Like tonight.
After hours alone Zuko returned to the chambers he shared with Aang. The other was sitting at the small table in the corner, sipping tea. Zuko approached him slowly and Aang blinked in surprise as he lowered himself to the floor in front of him. “Zuko?”
“Forgive me.”
“For what?”
“Just do it, please, put my soul at ease.”
Aang set his cup down and leaned forward, gently cupping Zuko’s chin to pull his head up so that they could look each other in the eyes. “Only you can forgive yourself,” he said quietly.
