Drabble: These Words Lie

Pairing: Jasper/Seth
Prompt: “Tears of an Angel” by RyanDan
Jasper paced in the living room of the Cullen house. He knew he was projecting his worry since the rest of his family seemed to be on edge but he just couldn’t even begin to rein his emotions in, not with Seth lying on the bed in Carlisle’s office. His lover’s faint heartbeat echoed in his ears, the fact that that hadn’t changed since Carlisle had asked him to leave the room only served to worry more.
He cursed himself for ever leaving Seth unprotected when he had sensed another being in the area. Now he was paying for it… and Seth may pay for his stupidity with his life. Hands closed around one of his wrists; he stopped pacing and met Alice’s eyes. She stared into his eyes for a moment before she wrapped her arms around his neck. It was all Jasper could do to not collapse and wrap his arms around her in return.
The door of Carlisle’s office opened and his footsteps grew louder as he approached the living room. Jasper looked up from Alice’s shoulder to meet his father’s eyes. The sadness and compassion in them was almost too much. “Seth?” He whispered.
Carlisle looked down at the floor and then slowly shook his head. “I’ve done everything I could. I don’t believe he’ll see the morning.”
A sob caught in Jasper’s throat. Alice’s arms tightened around his neck but he broke away and went to Carlisle’s office. Sinking into the chair by the bed he took Seth’s to cool hand into his own. “Seth… my little wolf… please, tell me these words are a lie…”
No answer vocal answer met his ears…and that was answer enough.
