Drabble: Bleeding Runes

Pairing: Will/Jem, Will/Tessa
Prompt: his parabatai rune was bleeding - Cassandra Clare’s “unidentified snippet” (it’s totally from Clockwork Princess, Starry and I decided this.
She was lost. The moment his lips touched hers she could feel herself falling. Of course, if she were to be honest she had already fallen for Will but each time they kissed anew she fell all over again. Tessa’s arms wound around Will’s neck, pulling him closer to her. His hands were buried in her hair that had fallen out of the pins holding it up. As they backed up to a shelf in the library books that had been balanced precariously on the edge fell around them.
The thuds of the books landing on the floor was what brought Tessa out of her stupor. Her eyes flew open and she immediately started pushing and pounding her fists against Will’s chest. He broke the kiss with a gasp, his hands leaving her hair to grip the bookshelf behind her. Will was still much to close, their pants mingling together.
“We can’t do this. We have to stop this,” Tessa hissed. Her eyes flickered to the ring that she wore on her left ring finger, Jem’s ring. “I-I am engaged to Jem.”
Will snorted, his blue eyes like glittering ice as he met hers. “Tessa,” he murmured. “You honestly think Jem doesn’t know?”
Her eyes widen. “O-of course he doesn’t!”
Shaking his head Will took a step back. “Jem knows, he’s just too nice to say anything. Jem would never do anything to hurt either of us.”
“But you love Jem,” Tessa stated. “How can you hurt him like this?”
“How can you?” Will shot back. He raised a hand and ran his fingers through his black locks. “Love is pain.”
Tessa’s eyes widened. “You’re bleeding!” She exclaimed pointing at Will’s arm.
Will lowered his arm, staring at the blood soaking through his white shirt before he slowly reached out and pulled his sleeve up. Blood slowly seeped from a single rune on his arm. Will’s eyes widened before he strode for the door, wrenching it open and running out.
Tessa stared after him in confusion. There hadn’t been any wound on Will’s arm to cause the blood… it was only coming from a single rune. Which rune was it? A memory suddenly surfaced, a night that she and Jem had spent right here in the library as he explained rune’s to her. He had raised his sleeve to show her one in particular.
”This is my parabatai rune. Will has the same one in the same place.”
Tessa reached out and touched it lightly. “Does this rune do anything if something ever happened to either of you?” She asked.
Jem’s lips formed a thin line as he pulled his sleeve back down. “Death… if either of us dies before the other… the parabatai rune will bleed.”
